R'Dream Scholarship and Book Grant


The R’Dream Scholarship & Book Grant

Through funding from the University of California Office of the President, UC Riverside now offers the R'Dream Scholarship and Book Grant to AB 540 students!

You may apply to both the R'Dream Scholarship and Book Grant, but you will only be awarded one per quarter. Be sure to reapply every quarter! If you don’t get it the first time, you may get it the next!


  • You must be a current undocumented UCR student.
  • You must be AB 540 eligible.
  • You must have applied for the California Dream Act.
  • You must have completed the R’Dream Scholarship and/or Book Grant application. 
  • You must submit a resume with your application.
  • Committee decision is based on (1) financial need/hardship (2) community service/leadership (3) academic achievements/future goals.

The R'Dream Scholarship 

Each R'Dream Scholarship award is up to $500.

The R'Dream Book Grant 

If we have the textbook you need, you may borrow it from our Lending Library. If we don’t have it, and you are selected for the book grant, you will receive an award for the cost of your textbook(s). 

You may list up to six textbooks; however, if selected, we cannot guarantee that you will receive funding for all of your books.

Additionally, all textbooks purchased with the book grant must be returned to Undocumented Student Program’s Lending Library at the end of the quarter/course. Failure to return textbooks will result in disqualification for future scholarships and book grants. 

The book grant may not be used to purchase digital versions or book rentals.

USP Emergency Grant

Undocumented Student Programs (USP) offers an Emergency Grant program up to $500.  Qualifying students may only receive an emergency grant from USP one time during the academic year.  The emergency grant is for unforeseen emergencies such as medical services, dental services, legal fees, housing crisis, and other emergency expenses as determined by the grant committee. Emergency grants are on a first-come-first-serve basis and will be available until funds exhaust. For non-emergency/expected costs, (such as grad school test, books, etc.) students should apply to the R’DREAM Scholarship or Book Grant during week 1.


What does the committee consider when awarding:

  • Is it an urgent situation?
  • Was it unexpected and unforeseeable?
  • What impact does it have on their educational success?
  • Is there funding?



  • Must be a CA DREAM Act Aid recipient
  • Must be a current UCR student enrolled in a minimum of 12 units or an approved reduce study load 
  • Must have an emergency and unexpected need 
  • Complete an emergency grant application and submit proof of emergency need

Note: Financial Aid package will be evaluated for eligibity.
